MY story
The Helpful Handyman is really just a natural progression of things. Combining my love for creating something with my hands with the love of meeting/helping people.
It might officially be launched in 2026 but it’s been a long time coming. Guess it all started when I was a kid. My Norwegian grandfather Henry, was a very handy and talented man. He was the kind of man that made his own tools, made several violins and did wood carving in his older days. I remember him showing me how to use a knife and wood carving techniques in his basement when I was about 10. Yes, I did cut myself, but that didn’t deter me from wanting to do things, create things with my hands.
My dad, who used to be an art director, showed me how to paint when I was even younger. “Not too much paint, it will run and get messy…” I’ve also done art of some sort since I was very young. Spent many hours drawing before music took over much later. I’ve been a drum teacher (the love of meeting and helping people) and musician for many years.
But alongside that I have had extensive experience with renovations through properties my wife and I have bought in both Australia and Europe over the last 20 years. Through all those properties I have done a ridiculous amount of painting, built furniture, bogged and fixed many walls, built frame/stud walls, hung and fixed plasterboards, some light concreting, total renovated a bathroom, built a fully sound insulated drum room…
I have also done many jobs for my friends in Norway. For example painting 4 houses externally and internally. In addition to that I have worked privately for people in Melbourne through the Airtasker app, plus done demolition and other renovation work for a professional builder.

MY PHILOSOPHY
I care. I take pride in my work and treat your place like it’s my own. Meaning I will be as pedantic/meticulous eg. painting your walls as if they were mine. Very little of “she’ll be right”.
I also have design ideas so am happy to talk to you, the owners, about ideas you might have for colours or other things.
I look forward to helping you out with your projects,
